Created for High-School-age singers eager
for exciting musical experiences with
like-minded young people from the
northern New Jersey and
Manhattan areas.

WHAT: Specialized High School Auxiliary Ensemble of Schola Cantorum on Hudson. An elite, mixed-voice choir of high school singers, incorporating training in use of the voice and sight singing.

WHO: High school age (freshman-senior) singers of above average capability, seeking an exciting and challenging choral experience among like-minded colleagues.

WHEN: Monday rehearsals, 5:30-7:15pm.

WHERE: Rehearsals: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 440 Hoboken Avenue, Jersey City

WHY: Extending opportunities for musical performance, development, and training beyond the classroom.

HOW: By audition & supported by family commitment.

The program is designed to offer a rewarding and enriching experience for those students considering a career in music as well as those seeking a lifetime of participatory musical enjoyment.

Family Commitment

  • Participation minimum of $150 tuition to be paid by each singer, covering 16% of the $936 real cost; balance to be raised by SPS Advisory Council and Family Support Organization.
  • Weekly rehearsal schedule (beginning October 29, 2012): Mondays, 5:30-7:15. Regular attendance is a requirement.

Directors Lydia Megale and Vasyl Hrechynsky bring a combined 37 years of high school choral leadership to the program. They will work collaboratively within the Schola Cantorum on Hudson mission of transformation through the arts, a mission that has provided a quality choral artistic element in Northern New Jersey and Manhattan for almost two decades.

SPS Advisory Council:Members of the community charged primarily with obtaining financial support & visibility for SPS.

Family Support Organization:Primarily comprised of family members of SPS singers, charged with tending organizational & social elements of operations.
