Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the concerts held?

All concerts are performed in both NYC and NJ.

What is expected in audition?

Requisites for auditioning include previous choral experience, music-reading ability, and a clear voice with good intonation. Auditions consist of a prepared solo, sight singing and an interview with the Artistic Director.

Can I get to rehearsals using mass transit?

Schola singers come from an exceptionally wide geographical radius from both sides of the Hudson River. Additionally, Schola is a full-season performing resident of both New York and New Jersey. All of our rehearsal and performance venues are highly accessible via mass transit.

How do I audition for solo work?

All solos are assigned to Schola singers. Indicate your desire for solo work in your preliminary conversation with the Auditions Coordinator. You may be asked to prepare specific music for solo auditions.

What are Schola singers like?

Schola singers include a high percentage of active professional musicians, young emerging professionals, and experienced avocational musicians. Solo technique is supported in SCH approach to ensemble tone. All soloists for our concerts are selected from among the professionally-trained members.

Is there a financial commitment?

Singers in SCH do not pay membership fees or dues but are expected to purchase their own music.
